Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate - 2008 Petite Sirah |
| September 2011 |
|
"90 POINTS... The 2008 Petite Sirah from Ancient Peaks is a dark, juicy offering bursting with black fruit, smoke, scorched earth and crushed rocks. It shows terrific density and muscle, with firm tannins that support the fruit through to the finish. Quite characteristically for young Petite Sirah, the tannins remain a touch prominent and need further bottle age to soften. Super-ripe plums and cassis wrap around the intense, brooding finish. The blend includes 15% Syrah, and the wine spent 24 months in French oak barrels. The 50% new barrels are very nicely integrated. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018+." |

| “Ancient Peaks is quickly becoming one of our favorite consistent producers of affordable wines with lots of personality, sourced from the Margarita Vineyard, just 14 miles from the Pacific Ocean.” |

| “There are plenty of good values out there, and not all of them are cranked out by nameless wine factories. Case in point is Ancient Peaks, a Central Coast winery owned by a group of winegrowing families. All its wines sell for less than $20, and they consistently deliver well beyond their price range.” |

| “And for the best value on the dollar, it’s hard to beat the short but impressive track record of Ancient Peaks. The 2008 Syrah, Zinfandel and Merlot are all best buys.” |

| “90 POINTS…Editor's Choice…Shows some real class and distinction, with velvety-smooth tannins and a nice touch of smoky cedar framing well-developed flavors of black cherry candy, red currants and spices. One of the best Merlots to come out of Paso Robles lately, at a fair price. |

| 90 POINTS…Here’s a soft, rich red wine that satisfies for its velvety mouthfeel and complex flavors. Made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Merlot and Petit Verdot, it offers blackberry, currant, bacon, dark chocolate and black pepper notes that finish smooth and long. Advances the argument for these unusual blends from Paso Robles.” |
Wine Enthusiast - 2008 Syrah |
| February 2011 |
| “90 POINTS…Editor's Choice…A really nice Syrah, especially at this price. It’s dry, softly tannic and enormously rich in blackberry and cherry-pie filling, red licorice, beef jerky, black pepper and sandalwood flavors. A real pleasure to drink now if you’re looking for a medium-bodied red.” |
