2013 White Label Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2013 vintage marks the first-ever varietal Cabernet Sauvignon made for our reserve White Label tier. To craft this wine, winemakers Mike Sinor and Stewart Cameron tasted through more than 230 barrels from blocks 49 and 50 at our estate Margarita Vineyard. From this larger lot, they selected 12 special barrels for extended aging and White Label treatment. The result is our most purest and impressive expression of the Cabernet Sauvignon grape to date, intending to showcase the Santa Margarita Ranch AVA as a standout region for Bordeaux varieties.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon White Label bursts out of the glass with fragrant aromas of blueberry, black cherry, tobacco, graphite and toasted wood. Dense, juicy flavors of cherry and red currant yield to impressions of dark chocolate and oak spice. Firm tannins set the tone for a lively, structured finish.
Winemaker Notes
The aim was to produce a varietally true Cabernet Sauvignon with ample fruit intensity and a solid backbone. The lots were cold soaked for 48 hours to promote balanced extraction of color, flavor and tannin. After fermentation, the wine was racked to tightgrained French oak barrels, half of which featured new oak. Extended aging took place over a period of 23 months, with the tight-grained wood ensuring a slow, seamless oak integration. The wine from block 50 brings a dark berry quality with mid-palate richness, while the wine from the hillside of block 49 contributes nuance, complexity and classic Cabernet structure.
